I agree. Safety should be a higher priority than a better gas mileage. I made a little hypothetical situation.
ok you have 2 vehicles, a motorcycle that gets 50mpg and has a 4 gallon tank, and a car that gets 17mpg and has a 12 gallon tank. A one way trip to school is 48 miles, which is 96 miles both ways. You do this each day for 5 days for a total of 480 miles. For the motorcycle that is an estimate of 9.6 gallons of gas, which means about 2.4 trips to the gas station at a cost of 24 dollars. For the car, that is an estimate of 28.2 gallons of gas, which is also about 2.3 trips to the gas station, and a cost of about 70 dollars.
So in this scenario, you make about the same number of trips to the gas station but pay about 46 more dollars in gas for the car than you do the motorcycle.
Personally, i would drive the car and pay the extra money, because i am enclosed and i can wear a seat belt. 96 miles a day on highways and back roads going presumably pretty fast on a motorcycle with just a helmet and some leather pants and a leather jacket is not a good idea in my book. Like the old saying goes, “there are more important things in life than money,” and getting home safely to your family is a big one in my book.
I realize that I missed speaking reflection for week 4 and 5, so last weekend I came back to Colonial Heights to have conversations with my neighbor about 2 topics. The second topic is about vehicles. We had a comparison between motorcycles and cars. We said that motorcycles cost less gas than…
